2014 Moa Awards Highlights

Here is a highlight video from the MOA Awards made by Sonic Vision Studios.

"The 2014 Moa Awards were held on November 11th at the Sandfords Event Center Opunake. I had the privilege of putting the show together and so created a MTV styled Awards Show. Created the Transformers intro and put Mt Taranaki in the shot with Optimus Prime (At the end)."

Well last week was certainly a busy week.  It was great to catch up with a lot of Room 14 parents at the MOA Awards and Gala Day.  It was great to see a large number of people out to support the children at our school.  This week we start the 'Skills for Life' programme run by Sport Taranaki.  This is a once per week lesson where students learn a variety of different offense and defense skills that can be used across a variety of sports.  Don't forget, all of our MOA awards work is on our blog, we have a page dedicated to all of the wonderful work we completed, click on on the page link above and take a look.

Wahine Update

We have been reading 'No Safe Harbour' by Taranaki author David Hill.  It is a story of Stuart and Sandra, 15 year old twin brother and sister and their survival of the Wahine Disaster on the 10th of April 1968.  This has inspired us to look deeper into the events of April the 10th 1968.  We are completing research mini studies, writing newspaper articles, using the green screen to take photos of us there on the day.  We are even writing and presenting newspaper articles using 'Lifecards' as well writing and filming TV news bulletins as if we were there on the scene reporting the news.  Keep checking back to see how we got on.

We have also been using the APP 'Lifecards' to make these newspaper front pages.  This is Jazlins, more will follow...

Our Calendar Art

Here is our Calendar Art.  We used a green screen as part of our work for the MOA Awards to take these photos.  Make sure you order your calendar quick.

Hello Everyone,

Well the MOA awards are finally here.  Tomorrow night sounds like it is going to be a great evening.  I can’t wait to see if our movies, photos or graphics have won an award.  At this stage we are still looking to have the children travelling in style to the ‘Red Carpet’ in classic cars from 6.30pm from the school car park (unfortunately the weather looks like it might be against us).  I know a lot of tickets have been sold so get there early.  As I understand it once we are there the children will sit together near the front with adults behind the children. This Wednesday is bike safety day.  I will let you know more details as we find out.  Check in with our blog, as this will be the first place I put information as I get it.  The final day for ordering Calenders is this Friday, once again I have put the students Art on the class blog so you can see what they have made.  We have used a green screen photo from our MOA awards work.  Get ordering, quick!  Gala Day is this Friday.  It always amazes me how a community gets behind a school for fundraising events like this.  Keep those donations rolling in.  There is a lot on at the moment so keep checking in on our blog.  It is the fastest way to let you know what is happening.

Not long now for the MOA Awards evening, will Room 14 snatch a win with one of our entries?

Our School Close Up

As part of the 'MOA' Awards we have been learning about photography and have been taking photos of unusual things around our school, 'CLOSE UP.' These are things that we pass everyday and normally don't think about, but if you stop and look, it is amazing what you might see...

LIBRARY BOOKS

As the term is winding down to an end we are once again
on the search for School Library Books.  Could we please
have these all back to school as soon as possible.  It would
be great for Room 14 to be the first class to have all of
our books returned for Term 3.

CHEERLEADING SUPERSTAR

Dior went to Wellington to compete in a Cheer Leading competition as part of Elite Cheer based in New Plymouth.  Dior's group came first in the Level 2 competition.  Well done Dior.

WANTED

We have a couple of wardrobe issues for our upcoming movies, so if anyone could help that would be great.  We need a white dress for Little Bo Peep (Naleeah), a red cape for Little Red Riding Hood, (Bella), brown pants and top for our dog, a witches hat and broomstick for our witch and four sacks (that you don’t mind being cut).  If anyone could help us with these items it would be great.

Curtis our Marvellous Caretaker!!

For writing this term we have been working towards writing Narratives (fiction stories).  To lead up to this we have been learning to write character descriptions.  We have been learning to not only describe what a character looks like but give detail about their sayings, actions and where they can be found. One of the descriptions we wrote was about our great friend Curtis, our school caretaker.  The photos show the process we have gone through to not only write our wonderful descriptions but also how we presenting them on a 'Shelf Diorama.'  Add a comment, let us know what you think of our descriptions!

"Where can you found Curtis on a summer day? On his lawnmower, mowing the field for a rugby game."
- Charlie

"When I walk by Curtis he always and I mean always greets me with a “Hey Daragh, how are you doing?” and I always say “I’m good, yourself?” Then he smiles at me, that brightens up my day.
- Daragh

"Curtis is as tall as when I get a shoulder ride on my brothers shoulders.  Those old brown work boots of his scurry around wherever they can while those wrinkly stained hands carry something heavy and dirty."
- Dinah

"Curtis is our caretaker at our school.  His hands are so wrinkly, it’s like he's been in the swimming pool for hours!  His eyes are like big brown puppy dog eyes, that shine in the sunlight."
- Jonah

"Curtis has a hairy face and wrinkly hands. His hands are dirty from working hard
around the school. He wears gum boots. We can here his lawnmower; chop, chop,
chop, chop! The grass flies out of the chopper, he has his ear muffs on his head
and has a big smile on his face."

- Kaiden
